I have only recently started watching The Sapronos. Never seen any of it before. So many of my freinds rave about it. The first 2 episodes were not my thing, but i stuck with it and im now up to Episode 8 of season 1. Im starting to get into it. I really love anything Mob related.
The first season really relies on the storyline of the mob boss at a shrink which overstays its relevance in the long arc of the series, but what a great show. I met Joe Pants (plays Ralphie in a later season) at a Goonies reunion and asked him about Sopranos but i got the impression he considered The Ladykillers to be his greatest work- Ha!
I re-watched the series for the fourth time last year to introduce it to my wife. She wasn't as impressed but what a damn good show, despite the controversial finale.
It's not a perfect show, but close. I personally can't stand the dream sequence episodes that David Chase seems to love where it feels like he's obviously shoveling symbolism and philosophy in your face.
