How little do I know...
For years I thought one of the effects Edge used was probably a synth sound MIDI transferred to his guitar... he’s using it on Lemon and on the live version of many songs, as in the end of Love is Blindness here :

Anyway, turns out it’s a simple pedal and I’ve been using it since last week. Here’s a demo (not mine).

Wow! And this is not the first time I've been surprised to find a sound was from Edge's guitar rather than a synth or even another instrument.

they've got some competition. JHS describes their 3 Series Octave Reverb as "the Eno/Lanois shimmer."

I was watching that clip of the Edge demonstrating his rig to the BBC. Ya know this, i think im about done with the shimmer effect, as far as The Edge goes. I feel it is overdone down now. Just my tuppenceworth.
