The Adam Clayton solo tour

Yes, it's true. Tired of the long delays that seemingly beset the U2 camp of late, Adam has decided to go his own way.

For the first time ever, the Adam Clayton solo tour.

Adam Clayton, on his own, playing the bass lines of all your favourite U2 tracks.

No vocals. No lyrics. No melody. No audience interaction.

Just the root notes of chords. Rock and roll at its purest. Tickets on sale soon.

"There's nothing wrong with U2. As far as I'm concerned, I've stolen from Larry Mullen's career for years. Without Larry, I wouldn't be able to stomp and sing, it'd be difficult. I mean I owe debts to the Bhundu Boys, Larry Mullen, Stewart Copeland. They're good players, and they're great songwriters" - Gary "Reni" Wren, drummer, The Stone Roses reunion press conference, 18/10/2011

"I'd just like to put on record that that's bobbins" - Ian Brown, singer, ditto

Support act: Bill Bailey, giving his interpretation of a catastrophic technical failure at a U2 concert.

Adams not dumb. He’s had the best job in rock n roll for 4 decades. Bass player for mega selling band that has equal ownership. While Bono and Edge wrote the songs and Larry kept an eye on the empire, Adam was off banging cocktail waitresses…2 at a time.

Adam sure did like him some quaaaaludes back in the day.

But I agree, he's had a good ride.  You read his contributions in interviews and you realise his creative input into U2 is more or less negligible.  He probably knows less about their songs than I do.  He's the bass player and he shows up on time (except that one time he didn't).

His creative output was more than Andrew Ridgeley's in Wham or Fletch in Depeche Mode. Admittedly, that's a relatively low bar.

And he can play the bass better than you, or I. Again, that's not a particularly high bar.

It's true, he can play the bass better than you or I.  Actually, his bass - at least back in the day = was quite distinctive.  It had a real groove to it.

There was the story of Neil Young driving by Adams place in Ireland and saying “that’s the bass players house!”

I guess in most bands the bass players don’t get equal pay to the songwriters.
