Dublin or Paris?

I’m likely gonna take the family to England this summer, and I’m thinking of 1 other place to tag onto the trip: Dublin at the front end or Paris at the back.

My daughter of course wants Paris but I’m leaning more towards Dublin. Would likely be 3 days at either spot.

So for those who have been to both what’s your recommendation?

I guess it depends on which place is the most chic to get mugged in.

Paris is a shithole - and the people there are horrible.

Dublin is alright.

Personally i'd choose neither and go for Edinburgh.

Edinburgh isn’t really in the plans. At some point I want to do an England/Scotland golf trip with my friends.

I will likely check out Cardiff this trip as that’s where my grandparents were from.

Been a few times to both France and the UK, not Ireland though. So I can’t speak of Dublin.

Paris is a must at least once, if you’ve never been. 3 days would be tight, but manageable.

Where are you heading in England? Have you settled on a particular region?

Cardiff and London for sure. We are probably ly looking at 11 to 12 days total. So not sure if I’ll have time to venture north.

Cardiff looks like a good place to explore the Cotswolds. I haven’t been to that particular city, as we stayed in the middle of the country side, but I definitely recommend you venture east from Cardiff (assuming you rent a car). Bath would be another great place to visit from there. The Roman Baths are a must see.

I enjoyed both cities. I'd say there's more to see in Paris but the people are much friendlier in Dublin.  Twisting my arm, i'd pick Paris to see Versailles, the Louvre, Notre Dame, the tower, Jim Morrison's grave and for the cheese and bread.  I'd pick Dublin as the place i'd want to go back to revisit, but you have to see Paris at least once in your life.

How did you find driving in England, it take long to get used to the wrong side of the road? I love driving and have done the Vancouver to California road trip and through the desert/mountains etc.. Not sure yet if I’m gonna rent a car or take a train

Took me a few hours to get used to it, but no issues really. Except when
you reach a fence and have to open it to pass through a field full of sheep. (True story).

Trains are a bit dodgy in England. It’s not as good as what you have in Europe.

Honestly wasn’t my experience at all.
"There's nothing wrong with U2. As far as I'm concerned, I've stolen from Larry Mullen's career for years. Without Larry, I wouldn't be able to stomp and sing, it'd be difficult. I mean I owe debts to the Bhundu Boys, Larry Mullen, Stewart Copeland. They're good players, and they're great songwriters" - Gary "Reni" Wren, drummer, The Stone Roses reunion press conference, 18/10/2011

"I'd just like to put on record that that's bobbins" - Ian Brown, singer, ditto

Sounds real nice. Haven’t been to either since 1985 and I bet both have changed a lot, byt especially Dublin. Have a good time.
