Pride, I agree the larger discography helps keep the music interesting and this leads to more minutes played.
Looking at my top songs playlist, there were a few notables that I object to because I strongly doubt the statistics. A song that I think I listened to maybe 5 times ranks over a song I played to death - several examples in there.
Also it’s not just embarrassment about Foreigner; while I admit to having them (and Kansas, Journey, and a couple others) on repeat for a few weeks, it’s hard for meto believethey surpassed some other artists I’ve listened to pretty consistently this year, such as Lana. I could see them being #10 maybe, given that the remaining artists didn’t get a surge of attention, but I was shocked to see them at #5.
It kind of makes me self conscious to enjoy something that might take my interest momentarily, such as listening to stuff my dad liked for the memories. It’s not that I really care but - 2024 wasn’t about Foreigner for me, so it feels off.
I had 22k minutes listened, my kid had 46k minutes, not counting vinyls of course. Also had about 350 artists listened to, which sounds pretty good to me but is probably actually pretty bad. But I curate everything I listen to, I don’t just play “best of 10s emo rock†or anything.
