Best Albums of 2024
« on: November 29, 2024, 08:43:52 PM »
Well 2024 has been an absolutely superb year for music - so many albums that I have really enjoyed and really loved this year.

It has taken me ages to whittle things down to some sort of list - a list which is in no particular order.

There are probably about 6 or 7 albums vying for my No.1 and being my best of the best for 2024 and I might be able to decide before 2025 is here which one it is....

But here are the albums that did it for me in 2024.....I have probably missed some and may think of them in the coming days - but for now here are the 50 plus that I consider the cream of the crop of 2024.

Well, for what it’s worth, here’s mine.

Hit Me Hard and Soft - Billie Eilish

Slam dunk my album of the year, wall to wall masterpiece. My favorite if hers, which is saying a lot since Happier Than Ever was a masterpiece too.

Clancy - Twenty One Pilots

The first half of the opening song, Overcompensate, reminds me of Zooropa a bit, extended dreamy intro with overlays of French and other European speech. Oldies Station is a song I appreciate quite a bit at my age. Paladin Strait also a very solid piece.

Chromakopia - Tyler, the Creator

I just started working on this one, just dropped a couple of weeks ago I think. Tyler, the Creator is I think sort of a modern Bowie. Really like his ideas. Album features a lot of guest artists. Really enjoyed hos last album, Igor, so looking forward to getting to know this one.

The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess - Chappell Roan

I’m not a huge pop fan but this album is just chock full of earworms. She blew up this year when she toured with Olivia Rodrigo. I’d call it Drag Queen Retro Pop.

I’ll post more if I think of any.

Right now, three albums are far out in front of the rest for me. In the order they were released:

Ensoulment - The The
Yesterwynde - Nightwish
The Last Will And Testament - Opeth

Order yet to be determined, and that might take a long while. Might post some of the also-rans at a later date.

I don't buy too many new albums other than from established artists I love.
This year it was the Liam/John Squire album and the newest from Old 97s.

There's so many to mention as I listen to music 24/7, so even when I'm sleeping. There's just so much great new music out there, you just have to seek it out. I never listen to the same song twice as that would be most uncool and in any case if I listened to the same song twice the opportunity cost of that would be another new song that I didn't listen to.
