Pixies
« on: September 17, 2024, 11:26:11 AM »
New album and tour announced. I can't comment on any new music yet as need to listen it. But my question is does anyone here recommend them live? I'm thinking about seeing them for the first time and don't know if I would catch them way past their best.

I saw them a lot back in the day. I’m all Pixied out now, but they still put on a decent show. So, for me, I’ll never see them again but if you could do a lot worse than check them out live.

Is that pixied out because you don't care for later albums?

Partly. Surfa Rosa, Doolittle and Come on Pilgrim are superb. I don’t care much for their other records. Even so, I saw them later as part of a social and there were still a decent live act. IMHO if you haven’t seen them live, they’re still worth a go. I just don’t need to go there anymore.

cant believe im in here before my Pixies loving sidekick an tha!

they do put on a good show, see them if you havent. i caught them <with Kim Deal still> on the Doolittle anniversary tour in 2010 and then again in 2017?

so the highlight of the new music is the song Bagboy. i also quiet like the album "Beneath the Eyrie" but your milage may vary.

i rank the classic era albums as
Bossanova
Doolittle
Surfer Rosa
Trompe Le Monde
Come On Pilgrim

I took a listen to Bagboy and enjoyed it. Shame no Kim this time but it seems the deal is she can return any point her middling side project, whatever they're called  ;) aren't busy.

This time...?

This will be the 5th Pixies album since Kim last featured on 91's Trompe Le Monde.

The rest of your post has been overlooked for now as a gesture of goodwill.... ;)

Hey sidekick!

Still think Surfer Rosa is numero uno.

A good live act even without the goddess that is Kim - But i still haven't really taken to much since the comeback.....They are prolific though 5th record now since 2014.

So how do you all rate Frank Black's solo stuff? ive only heard a few of the albums and dont remember which was on what. i re-appraiased FB and the Catholics' debut and Black Letter Days yesterday. Both a strong 4/5 imo. I preferred the debut. I'm gonna listen to the first 2 FB solo albums tomorrw. I know i liked Teenager of the Year i remember that one for sure.

There is so much of it - he was releasing a couple a year at one stage and something like 20 records in under 20 years.

It is very up and down for me.

I enjoyed Dog in The Sand.

Teenager of The Year is a good record.

Pistolero is IMO a good record too.

Sorry, Thrillho, mate - but gave the new record a go and for me it is just more mediocrity.
