Seems to me that many people on here love to moan endlessly about u2. And I am bored of reading the same crap over and over. So this thread is to try and encourage (event the haters) to celebrate the parts of the u2 they enjoy.
So remember folks, no hatefull crap here, only the good stuff is wanted.
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

In an alternate universe i believe this thread exists and has thousands of very positive happy posts,  also people are aging in reverse or not at all.

You can scratch the itch until a bleeds.  A lady near the end of her life finally takes a plane ride back to her home country - then she realizes that half of the passengers on the plane are people she used to know that have already deceased - one of them holds her hand as the plane goes down.

If you honor her story then perhaps you too will take that plane ride when your time comes.  All we really need is someone there to comfort us along the journey.

I guess what i love about this band is there was a time i really needed them and they were absolutely great,  incredible. As time went on i began to need them less and oddly enough i didn't find them to be as great.

So the dilemma for me is,  if i want to revisit that greatness,  i do so at the risk of exposing my own weakness once again.  Whatever that is,  its a risk worth taking once in a while,  but not too often.

OS1 was pretty good.
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

Lemon is the greatest song of the 1990s.  How's that for nice.

Not a lie by the way.  I mean to say that I am not lying about thinking that.

Like many who come off as bitter on these pages, it is because of how precipitously they have fallen since those years.

No matter how much my relationship with U2 evolved lately, their body of work is still the piece of art that’s closest to my heart.

There are many things to love about U2.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

I agree.

We feel disappointed, rejected and, in no small part angry at what U2 have become.

Some days I am so angry about it that I can barely get out of bed.

Ok, that was a joke.  Ok.

  • I'm hanging on.....
1. The first time I heard One on my Walkman walking around Prague as a 16 year old inter-railer in the summer of 1992. Changed my life in many ways - music was always going to be a central force from that moment.

2. Roundhay park the year later. Couldn’t believe what I was witnessing not long after I fell in love with Zooropa (side 1 in particular).

3. Discovering Bad at live aid in 1995 (10 year anniversary programme on the beeb). Still watch it every week.

4. Miss Sarajevo

5. Midnight opening for Pop in 1997. Please.

6. Hearing Kite for the first time (3 days before the album release as it goes) and getting goosebumps. In a little while soon after went into my top five.

7. Elevation tour in Manchester and Slane (non-DVD night).

8. The Super Bowl. Wow. Again, watch it most weeks.

9. Uncovering gems like disappearing act, mercy, winter.

10. 360 in Poland.

11. Having a cathartic moment (during with or without you of all songs) at I & E in London. A moment I still pinpoint as turning a bad situation round and not looking back.

12. Meeting Bono (kind of) in Cheltenham.

13. The sphere.

14. Promenade, Red Hill Mining Town, So Cruel, Lemon, Moment of Surrender.

15. Noel Gallagher (my other hero) lauding them in the face of the haters.

I locked myself in my storm shelter after YSSML was released.  I did this for several days in fact,  smoking cigarettes and drinking battery acid,  eating boxes of twinkies.  When i finally emerged i was angry to find out that the song was not some cruel joke.  Also angry and surprised to see i was still alive.     Im still not completely over it   >:(

Here are my top 10 U2 highlights:

1. Borrowing my brother’s copy of October and hearing Tomorrow for the first time

2. Borrowing my brother’s copy of War and hearing Drowning Man and Surrender for the first time

3. Borrowing my brother’s copy of UABRS and hearing 11 O’clock Tick Tock and Party Girl for the first time

4. Buying TUF and absolutely loving 94 percent of it. Then seeing them live

5. Buying WAIA. I fuckin’ love that EP

6. Buying TJT and loving roughly half of it, then seeing them live

7. Hearing The Fly for the first time and seeing them live

8. Hearing Your Blue Room from OS1 for the first time

9. Every one of the 5 times I saw them on Elevation. I won a pair of tickets to the warm up show at the Astoria in London. Then I caught them in NYC, Paris and, again, London. Twice.

10. Hearing Ahimsa and coming out of a deep depression, I was laughing so hard
