50 Best Songs of The Eighties

Now I am not advocating this list or the source and there are some shocking picks on it....But whilst it is defintely guilty of not looking much further than the obvious places, it is at least to me anyway of some interest, these things are always taken with large pinches of salt of course, but anyway.....

It can't be an accurate list without The Boys of Summer, Steppin' Out, When Doves Cry, West End Girls, Smooth Operator, Fast Car, Don't Give Up, Fairytale of New York, to name but a few.

Nice to see WoWY and In the Air Tonight on the list.

I…. didn’t realize Pretty Hate Machine was 1989?

I didn’t buy that one till 93 or 94 and never paid attention to the copyright.

Kinda hard to argue against that, especially if you lived through that decade here in the States. The only things that come to mind for me are a) here in the States, that Depeche Mode song would've been "People Are People" and not "Just Can't Get Enough," b) I really have no idea how one makes a list like that without Janet Jackson on it, and c) only 2 rap songs? Really? I love that whole Straight Outta Compton album, but there's a lot of '80s hiphop songs that had more impact. "Rappers' Delight" and "Fight The Power" are the first two that come to mind.

Still, for what they set out to do, it's a fairly solid list.

Page is difficult to load on iOS. Don’t recall seeing Peter Gabriel on it, unless I missed something?

That would be a bad omission.

I'll think about it. Might take a couple of weeks at least, though. If I haven't posted it in this thread by the end of the month, it probably won't happen.
