4th of July is fine but it’s a meandering session fucking around. Glad it exists, though.

Note: EPAA is also a fucking around session but the fucking around got really real.

MLK. The 40 of TUF. Good but not as good as everything else.

Pride.

It’s awful and has no place on an otherwise magical LP

I disagree.

4th July is a magical bridge between two worlds.

4th Of July is a great atmospheric piece. I'd probably also rank it near the bottom on this album but I do really enjoy it.

Right.

Also, back in the 1900s, I used it a lot to fill out a mix tape that didn’t have enough room for a longer song. Scarlet, too.

4th July was once described as sounding like a ‘slow motion fireworks display’. I love that imagery, and it really works with the piece and with the sonic atmospheres on TUF. It doesn’t blow your socks off like Wire, and it won’t make yanks shout themselves hoarse to the trite lyrics during a chorus like pride, but it does, nevertheless, absolutely work on the LP. Remove it, and one removes the magic.

4th of July, easily.

Nothing wrong with it in context but not a piece I go to or enjoy in any other context. I might even like Bass Trap or 60 seconds in kingdom come a bit more. That said, they wouldn’t fit on the album as well.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Obviously 4th July is the worst.

U2's previous albums had been 10 songs. If TUF was 11/12 songs & 4th July was one of them, it would not be too bad. But having it as one of 10 songs was disappointing.

4th of July might be listed as a ‘song’ but I don’t consider it as such. I doubt Brook did, either. Think of it more as a segue between two worlds. As vital to the magic of TUF, as the other 8 songs.

Brook, the man who, has billions of other people, had nothing to do with that record ?!?
