Favourite U2 single video

Some ones I like -

Discoteque, good fun.

ISHFWILF, relaxed with the public.

WOWY, sombre but suited the song.

Numb, Edge deadpan.

Gloria, cheap but the 4 of them performing.

Pride, showing U2 are not a one album wonder.

U2 have had their share of good/great music videos as well as their share of not so great/good music videos (to put it nicely).

As far as the overall artistic value and cinematography as well as the message of the video is concerned,  i would say this one is their shining moment.

and this would be a close second.

Both are examples of everything being just right - absolute gorgeous works of art - and the songs are great as well.  Watched both of them just now and its amazing how they could pull at your heart strings with such raw emotion and somehow make you feel good at the same time.  Damn.

The Fly

It was cool. It showed a U2 no one had seen. It was a great preview to the album and that this wasn’t your older brothers U2.

It did show a different image. Bono in shades.

Then thought the Mysterious Ways video was more 80's U2.

Video seemed like men in there 30's still trying to keep to there 20's clubbing peak.

I know the feeling. Although my clubbing peak went into my 30's.

Two Hearts & TUF had lazy second single video written all over them.

The Fly and Discotheque probably have the best. Lemon's is quite creative, and so perfect for what that song is about.

Aye.

A man makes a picture, a moving picture
Through the light projected he can see himself up close
A man captures colour, a man likes to stare
He turns his money into light to look for her

"Stay" is definitely the one that sticks out for me, "All I Want is You" is another good one.

I agree on both counts.  Both filmed in monochrome.

They certainly peaked in this department with Zooropa. All 3 are great.

Agree with Electrical Storm and must add One (Berlin).

the problem with music videos is that you have to invest a short amount of time into actually 'watching' them

movies - that's fine as you know you're gonna invest more than 4 minutes so you make it an 'occasion' (beers, crisps, chocs, insert your own choice here.......)

but with music videos - even when they were the 'new thing' i can't remember if i ever made it to the end of watching more than 10 all the way through

and i don't think i've bothered with a U2 music video for the last decade or so - maybe i've watched 30 seconds and thought 'that's enough'
if you can read this then you're standing too close
