Do you think we might get some musical surprises in Vegas?
« on: September 30, 2023, 12:13:08 PM »
Do you think we might get to hear a rarity or 2, during the stint in Vegas?
Apart from LRM, it was a pretty predictable selection of songs. Zero musical risks taken. hopefully that will change, in the coming weeks.
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

At some point I could see a local group like The Killers making an appearance. Brandon Flowers is a big U2 fan, so seeing him duet with Bono wouldn’t be put of place. I suspect Zooropa will get some attention and maybe a handful of other deep cuts as the shows progress. With as staged as it is, I wouldn’t bet on too much changing.

I read somewhere that Bono has said the middle unplugged section will vary from show to show. R&H this time. Maybe dedicated to different albums in the next shows. If so we could expect surprises. Love rescue me could be considered a surprise.

The middle section of 4 songs will be from a different album each night.  I suspect at least 1 rarity for each of these besides like ATYCLB

Honestly, I’m pretty satisfied with that run of four songs from various albums.

It appears not. Exact same songs played on night II. Very Disappointing indeed!

Maybe they'll do a run of shows with R&H before switching to four songs from another album.

Zooropa and Pop could be pretty tasty sandwiched in the middle of the AB set.

They basically apologized for this during the show and said like “hope you don’t mind, we’re doing rattle and hum again, we just had so much fun last night.”  So, it should rotate soon, hopefully for the next one

I wonder how they’ll approach a set for another album like Zooropa or Pop or Unforgettable Fire. The Rattle & Hum set is an acoustic set and the R&H songs are probably more adaptable to acoustic than other albums.

[From the "Predictions" thread]

The worst thing to happen to this band is when Bono somehow decided that the true test of every song is whether it works with a stripped-down, acoustic delivery. It's just an excuse for laziness. There's not a single U2 song that is better if/when given the SOS treatment. But it does save the band from having to do the hard work of performing hard songs properly.

Stay(Faraway, So Close) works great, and I'd argue that Angel Of Harlem is better live acoustic than the studio version.

You’d lose that argument (but not admit it)
