For me simply the biggest drop off in quality i have ever known from an artist i have an interest in.

From albums that place in my all time favourites to albums i never want to hear again and music i found so insipid, it was hard to believe it was the same band.

How we got from The Fly to YTBTAM et al is one of the saddest falls from grace in music history IMO.

Are there any musical dots that can be connected aside from the fact it's the same four dudes?

None i can think of...

Themes for lyrics remain similar. I can’t see much in the music that joins the dots, though.

Is there anybody who thinks their 21st century output is even close to their 20th century? There are only two 21st century albums I still listen to (SOE and NLOTH), the rest as far as I'm concerned are very mediocre, and wouldn't have interested me if I wasn't already a fan. The 20th century had 10 albums (I think of Passengers as an album) and I still listen to all ten.

I can still listen to every album up to and including Pop as entire albums, well maybe not R&h but that's due to it's overall mish-mashness and not necessarily due to the quality (although WLCTT and LRM are pretty bad)

Everything thereafter has to go on to playlists, there's a decent amount of good, a bit of great but also a ton of crap.

A precipitous falloff of levels I haven't seen with any other band I have liked over the years.

We could do a poll on "is the sky blue" and we wouldn't get this much agreement......

Indeed. The sky appears black at night, many colors at sunrise/sunset, and actually has no color at all.

Obviously no contest. Nine albums against 5 albums.

The seven 80's albums were albums of the decade in different ways. The 90's saw them develop further.

But like some of the stuff afterwards as well.
