SOE Alternate Tracklists
« on: November 29, 2017, 04:52:35 PM »
Some people have complained that the placement of The Blackout in the tracklist as being "awkward" which I'm inclined to agree with. I also don't like how The Little things is nearer to the middle of the album than the end. I thought it might be fun to make our own alternate tracklists. The idea here isn't to add or remove any of the songs, just rearrange the order. Also, I think American Soul pretty much has to come after GOOYOW.

Here's mine:
1. Love is All We Have Left
2. The Blackout
3. Lights of Home
4. You're the Best Thing About Me
5. Get Out Of Your Own Way
6. American Soul
7. Red Flag Day
8. The Showman
9. Summer of Love
10. Landlady
11. Love is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way
12. The Little Things That Give You Away
13. 13

I think Blackout is perfect where it is ... it adds a bit of light relief into a pretty dark/reflective section of the album. It just breaks it up a bit for me.

The biggest problem with the tracklist above is that it doesn't have Book of Your Heart in it. I will play around with the tracklist in due course but need to get used to the songs more yet. I realized the beauty of Lights of Home yesterday, especially the strings version. I like my 3 or 4 favourite songs of the album to be placed together which at the moment works for me with Little Things, Landlady and Blackout. Just need to add Book of Your Heart into that.

Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

That's fair enough. I made this track list into a playlist after I posted this this and I really liked how the first track flows into blackout. It sounds more natural than going straight into Lights of Home.

Strings or regular version ?

Funny you should ask. A hybrid of the two....

It's the age of the playlist, not the age of the album, and the only one who does any actual cutting/butchery is Exile with his post-release edits, remixes, and "improvements."  8)

Speaking of, this addition may be a bit overkill slow-song-wise, but it's sort of perfect:

For me, the real heart of the album is not in the songs the band released early, but everything else.  Those songs feel like they're from a separate U2 project, though after initial disappointment with Get Out Of Your Own Way, I'm really loving it.
Yes, GOOYOW is a good song. Might even be one of the best on the album. Best thing and American Soul can do one though

Weird, but that would make for a great lead-in to The Blackout (til the break of day...when the lights go down...).

I just put it at the beginning of the record and have a 10 second cross fade into Love is all we have left and its pretty sweet.
The broken and the bruised
The young and the used
The sure and confused
All here

This seemed to work very well. Probably going to stick with this for awhile.

1. Love is All We Have Left
2. The Blackout
3. Lights of Home - Strings
4. Book of Your Heart
5. Summer of Love
6. Red Flag Day
7. The Showman
8. The Little Things...
9. Love is Bigger...
10. Get Out of Your Own Way
11. American Soul
12. Best Thing
13. Landlady
14. 13 (There is a Light)
I saw Gloria live. Even if I never see the band live again, at least I saw Gloria live. :)
