WTF American Soul 2nd single
« on: November 20, 2017, 04:26:26 PM »
I'm completely lost of words. I thought GOOYOW was the second single. But nope. They chose this one with a weak chorus that isn't made for radio. I like the song but it's not the right choice to attract the public.

American Soul may be my least favourite U2 song ever, can only think of Boots as a fair competitor. That said, does anybody really care about which song is the single these days? Don’t radio stations play songs rather than singles, meaning GOOYOW is just as likely to be spun?

I remember digging the melody of the verses when KL snippeted it, but I too was pretty nonplussed when I heard the official version. Hoping that SOE's filler will have some gems, because so far what I have heard has been super disappointing.

Do you consider a song not released as a single, filler?

This is good, I can see loads of dancing during the live shows and it rocks.

It's Glastonbury reborn with a bit of Volcano vibe thrown in.  I'm going to enjoy seeing hyped Bono singing this one (anti-Trump?)
One love, One blood, One life;
You got to do what you should.
One life; With each other
Sisters, Brothers
One life; But we're not the same
We get to carry each other, Carry each other

This is why I posted a thread asking what's going on with GOOYOW.

Not a fan of AS, Glastonbury and Volcano never did anything for me either (except Adam's exceptional bass), but hoping it rocks live and proves me wrong in a stadium/arena/wherever.
The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

The whole refujesus part is too slow for radio

I can't stand American Soul, honestly. It sounds hollow and incomplete.

The choice does make some sense, though. The band sees that many millennial Americans are still sour about Trump's election, and is taking advantage of that.

I like AS much more than YTBTAM or GOOYOW but the "look around" part and "refujesus" aren't great.

No, because there are warhorses like UTEOTW and Bad that were never released as singles. For me, filler includes stuff like COL, Being Born, TIWYCRMN, and WILATW.

The concept of singles barely exists anymore. There are 4 songs out there, 5 if you include TLTTGYA. We had The Blackout before we even had the first single. Now, the 4th (or 5th depending how you look at it) song we get is apparently the 2nd single. What, because it has a lyric video? Last time we had Invisible before the "1st single" at which time we got a full album. Times are different.
