Pride - Covers
« on: March 01, 2019, 08:20:02 PM »
My favorite song.   Discovered some good covers.  Flyleaf, lxandra, and Diercks Bentley.

Little did I know Michael Bolton did a good live version.  Great voice.

We just started watching The Man in the High Castle - what a twisted show it is.  I do highly recommend though  8)

I’m up to date and enjoyed all 3 seasons. Looking forward for the 4th season. Excellent series.

I listened to the Lxandra version. I love the music - the guitar sounds like Edge noodling, I like the spaces they left in.

I don't like the vocals, though. She did hit the notes, I will admit, but I didn't care for rhe style, phrasing, interpretation.

Also, the key is lower than the original U2 version. Bono hit higher notes - I think as much as two whole notes up.

Just discovered this.
I'm not a metal fan and so have not heard of Stereotype O Negative.  But this is a great attempt.  As much as you try and darken it, this song is joyous underneath.
My last sentence sums up why I prefer U2 to metal!

I didn't know Delirious? had recorded a cover....that was the most unsurprising surprise!
Delirious? were a Christian rock band from the UK, who split about 10 years ago.  Their music was often described as sounding 'quite U2'
I saw them live a few times and they were always good live (even if they were CCM music).  This is slightly disappointing as the production quality is a little uncharacteristic - Stu G's guitar is a bit high in the mix early on, drowning out Martin Smith's distinctive throaty vocal delivery - I would have liked to hear this more clearly.  Bono, I think, seemed to have inspired and influenced Martin at some point in his early playing career.  Still, Pride is performed with the power and punchy energy that became a trademark of Delirious? - even if it's not their best-produced recording.

One love, One blood, One life;
You got to do what you should.
One life; With each other
Sisters, Brothers
One life; But we're not the same
We get to carry each other, Carry each other

It's good isn't it?  Operatic at times.
