Simple Minds are touring North America this fall!  i just got my tix for Detroit.  I've never seen them live, but I think it's going to be awesome!

Wow. Seems they’ll be at the Metropolis in Montreal, small venue, mainly GA. That could be awsome. Haven’t seen them in 30 years, so I think I’ll go with my daughter this time  :D

I gave their new album a try a few weeks back.

Absolute shite.

Suffers with similar problems to latter day u2 material - old out of touch men trying too hard to make music that appeals to the younger generation whilst crowbarring in their signature sounds...end result a messy MOR hotchpotch...there is one song on there that literally recycles the main refrain from alive and kicking.

To be honest, I had no idea they had a new album.
To be honest again, if I am able to get tickets, I admit I'll be going for the nostalgia tour. (Don't crucify me 😜)

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.... ;)

Yeah they released 'walk between worlds' in February....it is awful.

Here is the lead single from it.

Utter shite...

The album got no better.

Jim's voice sounds too layered (not sure that's what I'm going for). Doesn't have the deepness I love. Kinda sounds like a really disco INXS in some parts. The funny thing is, I could totally hear this as a song on modern day U2 records...

I'll still go for the nostalgia...hell, I'm going to Vegas for U2. At least SM will be right here at home.
More importantly, there is that new Breeders release which isn't too bad at all!

Has the same desperate reaching for relevance i mentioned earlier....

As for All Nerve by The Breeders - now you are talking....Proof that it is possible to be in your mid 50's and not  fall down some search for relevancy hole....it is a fine record - by a band comfortable in their own skin.

Speaking of The Breeders...

I don't usually buy re-issues etc but i am very tempted to make an exception here.

I haven't gotten the new Simple Minds album and don't like that song you posted, An Tha.  However, I've been digging into their back catalog, and have found some stunners such as  "In Trance as Mission", "Fear of Gods", "East at Easter", "Today I Died Again", and of course there's the more well-known hits and the incredible "New Gold Dream".  Jim Kerr looks like quite the expressive front-man on any live performance I've seen, so I think the concert will be fun.  Hopefully some of the new stuff is okay, but they're sure to play lots of oldies.

I hope you enjoy it.

It is of course the old adage of to each their own and whilst i have rubbished their new material and don't really share your love of that old stuff you mention - i can see how as a nostalgia act they might hold an appeal for some.

I’ve been listening to NGD (the album) a lot lately, as it was one of my favorite albums of the early 80’s back then. Such a masterpiece, hasn’t aged one bit. I told my 23 yo daughter and her friend to download it and both were flabbergasted by it. So, I’m with kmama on this: it’s a nostalgia thing, attending that concert.

Sounds like their Magnificent.  Has some potential but then wusses out . . . never goes for a big sexy hook.  That's why we loved them.

U2 has similar issues post 2000.
