Diddy is Paying Sting $5000 Per Day For Sampling Every Breath...

I figured since Sting performed the song with PD at the MTV video awards, he was in on it.  Guess not.

IF it was for a limited amount of time then i can see it.  If it was for the life of the artist (Diddy) then that is a shit ton of money.

Good question. I guess it likely depends a lot on how much the song generates. $5000 a day is basically $1.8m per year. The court awarded Sting 100% of the song royalties so I guess it's getting a lot of play/streams still. Spotify shows it at 440m+ streams.

What’s sad about the whole thing is that you only hear Andy Summers on the sample. A riff he created in the studio. But he didn’t get writing credits…

We don’t know what was the deal between Sting and him back then. But obviously, it was bad for him.

And although we don’t actually hear Sting on the Diddy song, many of his lyrics were used. So Sting clearly had the right to sue.
