Until Every Breaking Waves it was the only U2 piano song.

It widened their range. U2 have songs for many différent emotions. It added contrast to their shows, which was their big strength for many years.

It lead to a range of amazing live transitions…
October -> Tomorrow
October -> New Year’s Day
October -> Bullet the Blue Sky

For the same reason it remains relevant in any U2 playlist.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Like the album as a whole, there is magic in that song. I’d hate to hear them play it now, though. I want the memory of those songs as they used to be to live on, not a half arsed stab at it by a middle aged guy wearing Gucci sunglasses.

Whats not to love. This song just makes me think of Autumn....and for that...i love it.
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

It's the greatest live palette cleanser they have. Windswept, brown-leaf imagery set to a song that can transition into greatness like it did on I&E going into Bullet the Blue Sky.

Amazing.
