When you're the most popular band in the world for a quarter of a century, that level of dominance commercially, especially in terms of exposure, media coverage, will naturally create a lot of resentment. So these examples of people not liking U2 are just signs of U2's past commercial dominance and exposure.

^ This is a big part of it for sure.

Like a lot of the rich and famous seem to grow into, Bono is a real piece of work.  I think it's human.  He's also had many, many flashes of sincerity regularly mixed in over his time.  One here?

No wons, U2 have never struggled to make their presence known.  On the contrary, they have always been very good at making their presence known.  Way too good at it, in fact.

That's a fundamental part of their problem.  They've been in everyone's face, non-stop, for decades.  Relentlessly serving up plate after plate of self-promotion.

People are tired of it.  Even their own (former) fans.

For the younger generation (18-35) U2 are seen as their parents band. Not cool at all.

Can’t really compare with The Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. as they are from a different era.

I think the stuff they recorded from 1983 to 1993 will eventually see a revival, because it is objectively good.

Funny I felt the exact same way about the Stones - didn’t want to hear them and they’re my Dads band.

He got tickets a number of times in the 90s and I regret not asking him to include me in the experience.

Yeah, SC, some people just see 100% fakeness. I’m not arguing who is right or wrong, but for people who see just 100% a bullshit act, it’s the worst kind of lie.

They are fine with a guy making money and getting famous and thinking he’s hot shit, but to do so while “pretending to be Jesus Christ” is abhorrent.

Personally, while I see a mountain of bullshit, I haven’t seen Bono “pretend to be Jesus Christ.” And I think there is sincerity wound into the bullshit. So even though I want to kick his ass, I buy enough sincerity that I think he actually meant it when he sang about how we get to carry each other, so I can enjoy it.

Yep.  The lyrics of 'Gone' come to mind too.  Self awareness of a rock star.  A glimpse of it.

Dad rock albums are dead but they could do another successful stadium world tour any time they like.

Bono is at his worst now.  Feeling the need to weigh in on EVERYTHING.

When half of your fanbase does not even listen to your new album and the general public has no idea that you have a new album out, you are indeed, struggling. That is where U2 was in December 2017 with the release of Songs Of Experience.

If they felt hard done by with the Songs Of Experience go-around, they had best hold onto their hats for the Songs Of Surrender malarkey.

U who?  Wha?  That Sunday Bloody Sunday band (you wish)?  The lemon people?  NO!?   NO!!!!!

They need to find new sounds like jazz funk or something but please for the love of God put Bono's vocals lower in the mix.

I read a horror story about an Australian who was imprisoned in Cambodia.  Makes one realise, don't visit a country unless one is willing to do time there.

I did time in both Cambodia and Australia.  You have more fun as a follower, but you make more money as a leader.
