"There's nothing wrong with U2. As far as I'm concerned, I've stolen from Larry Mullen's career for years. Without Larry, I wouldn't be able to stomp and sing, it'd be difficult. I mean I owe debts to the Bhundu Boys, Larry Mullen, Stewart Copeland. They're good players, and they're great songwriters" - Gary "Reni" Wren, drummer, The Stone Roses reunion press conference, 18/10/2011

"I'd just like to put on record that that's bobbins" - Ian Brown, singer, ditto

I liked it at the time, and I still do.

Overrated.  A very “safe” song.

Watered down version of Gone.

Kite is a great anthemic song. It has none of the pompous bluster of, for example, pride. The bit at the end lets it down about ‘new media’, ‘rock stars’ ‘hip hop’ and ‘big cars’ but apart from the it’s great

Bono's best vocal performance on record. Not my fave song on Behind, but definitely the best.

Bono's best vocal performance on record.

Insane thing to say when Bad, Heartland, and Hawkmoon 269 exist, but to each their own

You call Kite 'pompous bluster' and then praise Heartland.  Which may be the most ridiculous song in their catalog, if only for the pompous bluster that underpins it.  From a band who practically defined the category known as pompous bluster.

But to each their own.

I love Pride, so clearly I don't have a problem with 'pompous bluster' as long it still sounds good. But acting like Kite isn't also pompous bluster is silly. Heartland is an absolutely beautiful track, pompous or not. Kite on the other hand is extremely bland to my ears.

Calling Kite bland, I get that.  Personally I think it's a great tune, the best on Behind and maybe the best of the 2000s.  But whatever.  I can see the point you make re: bland.  But I don't get the bluster or pompous part.  What's that about?

Heartland should be its own thread.  So awful, in so many ways.
