Poll question - which Stone Roses member was right about U2?
« on: April 15, 2025, 10:12:16 AM »
"Bobbins" is Manchester slang for rubbish. Ian doesn't like U2. Reni does.
"There's nothing wrong with U2. As far as I'm concerned, I've stolen from Larry Mullen's career for years. Without Larry, I wouldn't be able to stomp and sing, it'd be difficult. I mean I owe debts to the Bhundu Boys, Larry Mullen, Stewart Copeland. They're good players, and they're great songwriters" - Gary "Reni" Wren, drummer, The Stone Roses reunion press conference, 18/10/2011

"I'd just like to put on record that that's bobbins" - Ian Brown, singer, ditto

This is a very important poll - perhaps the most important in the history of the internet. It's even more important than such crucial questions as whether Original Soundtracks is or is not a U2 album. (the correct answer to the latter, incidentally is, and this is a world wide exclusive I believe: "it is and it isn't")

😂

I believe the edge might answer on behalf of the stone roses at the upcoming press conference he is giving.

As for this poll, they’re both right 😂

I also agree with both Ian Brown and Reni - they are both right.

Great to see some uptake on this poll, with two votes and five comments.

Keep up the good work.

There are 4 members in the stone roses so I opted for ‘other’.

John Squire doesn't really talk very much, so it's hard to ascertain his views on U2. I suspect he'd be in the Ian camp but who knows.
Mani said "Bono's my mate" in the press conference. I wouldn't read much into that comment, I assume it just means they met at some social event or other and didn't end up brawling and rolling around on the floor, which would be funny if it had happened that way.

Just taking issue with your poll. Squire may not say much but he’s unquestionably a member of the stone roses. Some would say the most important member.

Constructive feedback is always welcome. However, while many would say he was the most important Roses member, and they'd very probably be correct, it would be rather pointless to include his views on U2 in the poll, given that he hasn't to my knowledge expressed any. If you know differently, please advise.

Your question was:

Which Stone Roses member was right about U2?

This implies you are asking which of the four members was right about U2.

If you just meant 2 members you could have, for example, asked:

Brown and Mani were members of the Stone Roses; which was right about U2?

Hence me opting for the third option.

Well, I assume the third option exists for a reason. Perhaps you should have renamed it;

‘Other - please explain. Unless i consider your answer ‘nitpicking’.

What did the members of the Stone Roses say about U2?
This is very important to me when deciding whether to listen to another U2 track for the rest of my life.

Not exactly mute, he just isn't very talkative in interviews.
