Hey folks. So I noticed there was a fantasy game where you picked out different songs and had to craft a concert. I want to try a different spin on this. What if you had no limits, no picks, no need to play Veritgo for people who bought iPods in 2005. Essentially, if you had no limits in what songs you could choose, what would your concert look like? I think this would be interesting to see what your tastes in albums, concert atmosphere, and other U2 traits look like, and if you want, talk about why your selections made that concert so special to you. Here are the requirements.
You can do 21 or 22 main concert songs. Divide them up however you want, if you want to specify acoustic, a or b stage, go for it, the more interesting the better.
You have 25 songs total. Meaning depending on your main set, you have a 3 or 4 song encore. Do 1 or 2 encores, its your choice.
And here is a small twist. You get 4 snippets. Less than half of another song can be tackled onto another, with Bono singing a select few lyrics from that song.
Without further ado here is my ideal concert
Main stage
1. City of Blinding Lights
2. Even Better Than the Real Thing
3. Magnificent
4. A Sort of Homecoming
5. New Years Day
6. Lemon
7. Iris (Hold Me Close)
B Stage
8. (Just Edge on Piano and Bono on Vocals) So Cruel- Snippet of Every Breaking Wave
9. (Still Acoustic) Running to Stand Still- Snippet of Winter, for some reason I can imagine parts of Winter working with the RTSS melody
10. (Full Band Enters) Where the Streets Have No Name
11. Exit as the Shadow Man- Snippet of In the Flesh by Pink Floyd, I feel that it fits sort of eerie atmosphere Bono would be going for
12. Mothers of the Disappeared
Back to Main Stage
13. Sunday Bloody Sunday- Snippet of War by Edwin Starr
14. The Blackout
15. The Troubles
16. Tomorrow
17. Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
18. Love Rescue Me
19. Please
20. Zoo Station
21. Out of Control
22. Acrobat
Encore
23. Walk On
24. Moment of Surrender
25. Love is Blindness
The first and last portions of the concert are just designed with some of the songs I love the most and would move my spirit up and down in the right order for how I would want to fee at that part of the concert, I think Iris in particular is a good set closer because of its beauty and drama. City of Blinding Lights is my favorite U2 song and I loved how it opened shows on the Vertigo tour, really gets my heart pumping. For the B stage, I wanted them to start us of softer with an acoustic rendition of one of my favorites, So Cruel. I then have them play a mini version of my favorite album, TJT, in the order I think combines my favorite songs on the album with the order that would give me the biggest emotional thrill.
But in particular I want to talk about the set list in between B stage and the encore. I created a little story that i think i'd love U2 to play. It's the story of a man who sees a world full of war, but remains strong (Sunday Bloody Sunday). Political turmoil (The Blackout), shakes him up, but he remains resolute, but the world is wearing on him noticeably (The Troubles). He tries to turn to religion (Tomorrow), but loses his faith in his god and his world after he experiences the churches scandals (Sleep Like a Baby Tonight). He shuns religion (Love Rescue Me). This makes him cynical, and he looks back on the conflict both in the broader world and in his church with scorn (Please). This hardened cynicism makes him go around thinking he has seen it all and the world doesn't matter to him (Zoo Station), until he realizes he is literally (Out of Control). Looking back on his life, perhaps talking to a lover he found along the way, he has an anger at the world, and warn's his other person to not let the bastards drag them down, like they did to him (Acrobat)
This will probably take you awhile to do, Im sorry for that.
Sorry this so much reading. Thanks for your time, and contribute your own!
