Did McCartney listen to TJT pre release?
« on: January 19, 2025, 08:37:40 AM »
The Beach Boys said Lennon & McCartney listened to Pet Sounds pre release. They were taken into a room & listened to it twice.

They then rang Brian Wilson & said how much they liked it.

McCartney would have had the power to do this in the 80's. Knowing the potential threat of U2 he may have done it with TJT.

After realising how good TJT was there may have been behind closed doors meetings between him & Bono. U2 agreeing not to do a residency at WS which would have toppled The Beatles.

McCartney may have done the same with Be Here Now.

However after listening to it, doubtful he had a meeting with Noel.

John and Paul would not have been threatened by Pet Sounds. They were both still creative & went out and made Sgt Pepper.

However Paul would have felt threatened by TJT in 87.

Paul begging Bono not to do a WS residency in 87. That I would have liked to have seen.

The Beatles disbanded in 1970 when Bono was ten years old. In 1987, No threat or need to topple anything because the Beatles had been over for 17 years at that point.

Don't think Harrison would have been with McCartney. Harrison had a dig at U2 in 97.

Ringo maybe.

What McCartney says about a band can be very influential. Remember it was the first item on the radio news after he called Oasis derivitive in 97.

Ringo not so much!

Maybe Bono agreed not to take down The Beatles with a WS residency or another JT in 89 providing Paul spoke positively about U2.

Don't believe McCartney listened to Thriller pre release. Apart from The Girl is Mine which he co wrote.

Thriller was more of a slow burner. Everyone getting excited after John Landis did a 15 minute video.

Whenever he is asked about working with Jacko he always says 'Michael called me'. Paul doesn't chase artists.

I don?t know about McCartney but I know for a fact Barry manilow paid cash for a pre-listen. My cousin?s wife?s aunt was his cleaner at the time and she said he was shitting himself at having to keep pace with u2.

She said he must have spun that record at least 100 times to work out the nuances in edges echo effect. He knew he had to really up his game for his forthcoming album after that.

Wooosh

I really hope your reply is tongue-in-cheek. Or maybe you?re not familiar with sarcasm?

I mean, let?s go through the clues:

1. Barry manilow

2. My cousin?s wife?s aunt.

3. Barry?s fascination with edges delay effect.

I really thought that would have been enough evidence to suggest that all was not as it seems.
