Were they not being bold and adventurous when they forced their shit album down everyone's throat in 2014?

Same. Sure, they flirted a bit with boldness with certain tracks since then, but they never talked about them, released any of them as singles, made videos for them, or played them live.
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

There are some adventurous tracks on later albums, but it seems the focus of the majority of songs is on an elusive hit single like Beautiful Day/Vertigo

It was the last time they were adventurous for an entire album (SatS not included although even there Edges guitar sound is quite innovative). NLOTH was half an adventure and both SoI and SoE had their moments. Imo the best moments on those albums also tend to be the most adventurous.

Altho I?d argue edges guitar sound is the most annoying thing about SATS

It's always coming back to the half aborted NLOTH. I think there are a few adventurous bits here and there but not really as a whole. It's really a shame.

I'm wondering if they still have this in them, quite frankly.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

I really enjoy the guitar parts on the song. Quite a lot as it goes  ;)
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

It was the last time that the question ?Is this what the public expects from us?? was meant to be answered ?no?.
