Endless re-issues
« on: September 25, 2024, 12:46:09 PM »
What is with all these vinyl re-issues?
I mean, they must sell in the low thousands.
Does it really make economic or artistic sense to keep up these releases?
I am done with them.

It’s just the music industry being on its knees. Nothing to see here.

Once i have an album on vinyl. i never buy a different version of it.  I'm on the mailing list for certain artists and I'm constantly getting e-mails for new re-issues.  Amy Winehouse especially.  I suppose when you only release two albums, and known for one, people will try to milk it. But does anyone seriously see a colored vinyl that's new and get a hard-on over it?  I couldn't care less about coloured vinyls.

I have bought a few u2 albums multiple times for the deluxe editions.  In those cases the bonus items were too much for me to turn down, but those were for TJT, TUF and AB.  Haven't touched the newest one for ATYCLB.

The newly released 30th anniversary edition of Definitely MAybe has a lot of cool unreleased versions of the tracks, but i'd only purchase it on CD if anything.

The HTDAAB reissue contains unreleased material, which is something the reissue of ATYCLB didn’t have so, I might just get it because that’s what I’m really interested in.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Vinyl albums are such an awkward way to listen to music, but I guess it a suitably reverent way to listen to a great album.  The last vinyl album I ever bought was Prince's Around the World in a Day which I bought for the artwork.

Haha I can't wait to hear songs that weren't good enough to be on U2's worst album!

or....are these the songs that SHOULD have made the album? that's what i'm looking for. Xanax and Wine and Fast Cars should NEVER have been cut. i'm actually kinda optimistic about all the unreleased stuff.

I'm not really as enamored with Mercy as some other fans are. It's just a boring, U2-by-numbers track. It isn't awful, but there's nothing particularly interesting about it to me. I would say Are You Gonna Wait Forever and either Fast Cars or Xanax And Wine should have made the album, but I'm okay with the fact that Mercy was left off. I am very much looking forward to any totally unreleased/unheard songs, though. That's the only facet of reissues I'm ever really interested in.

Also I'm surprised Native Son isn't making an appearance in the reissue. Probably just because I haven't heard it as much, but I prefer it to Vertigo. The verse melody is better and Bono isn't just talk-singing.
