Two violin heavy hits.

COI was the biggest UK hit of 82. Couldn't have been due to Kevin's good looks.

BSS
Come On Eileen was often called the greatest one hit wonder song of all time back when Mtv used to play music and did lists like that. I can remember when it was popular (I was like 4) and watching the video but not my favorite from that era. BSS just sounds like a proper banger to me. I'll admit its the only track by the Verve that i've ever heard but its a good one.

Lucky Man is the other good one.  In fact Bono once said he wished he'd written it.

Eventually Jagger Richards ceded the Verve full rights to the song.

COE got to number 1 in America. There first chart entry.

There next single got to number 86.

So you can say 'one hit wonder' again.

In the UK they had two number 1's & four top 10's. So a bit more success.

Geno deserved it's 1 week at number 1.

COI was when I first heard of them. That spent 4 weeks at number 1 in the UK.

The Verve has several good albums,  in fact 'A storm in Heaven' is considered one of the greatest shoegaze albums by NME

Which do I prefer?  Neither, to be honest.  The latter is one of my least favourite The Verve songs and the former is fine but you know, it is what it is.

COE would have made a nice change in 1982.

The so called New Wave synth pop music was coming in.

It won 'Best Single' at The Brits & was voted sixth best number 1 of the 80's.

"Cast no Shadow" was dedicated to Richard Ashcroft.

"There's nothing wrong with U2. As far as I'm concerned, I've stolen from Larry Mullen's career for years. Without Larry, I wouldn't be able to stomp and sing, it'd be difficult. I mean I owe debts to the Bhundu Boys, Larry Mullen, Stewart Copeland. They're good players, and they're great songwriters" - Gary "Reni" Wren, drummer, The Stone Roses reunion press conference, 18/10/2011

"I'd just like to put on record that that's bobbins" - Ian Brown, singer, ditto
