The U2 live Aid performance? Yes, I watch it regularly, it's a high point artistically for them.

Just to correct you guys on a few points there.

Best Live Aid performance was Queen - obvs.

Joint second: U2 and The Style Council.

Third: Bowie and band.

Actually, no. The best live aud performance was a video: the cars song ‘Drive’. U2 were over the top and rather embarrassing as usual

No trolling here. The most affecting performance that day was Drive, with the video of starving Africans. You need to grow up, whichever pseudoym you’re posting under currently.

Bad was just sensational. The gloriousness of running over and not getting to play ‘the single’ just about sums up what I love about this gloriously imperfect, risk taking band. I wonder how long the setlist discussion took? SBS was great but an odd choice maybe. Bad wasn’t a single. Pride made sense (although I’ve never particularly liked it live). I wonder if there was much debate over the final choice of SBS/Bad/Pride. What else do you expect think might’ve been thrown into consideration?

The Style Council were going to open Live Aid.

Can't imagine that. No brainer having Quo open. 'Rockin all over the world' was the song Radio 1 were using to promote Live Aid.

U2 were experienced in playing to large crowds.

Bono knew when to stick or twist regarding jumping into the crowd or waiting/hopeing for a fan to get onto the stage.

Ive seen the u2 Live Aid performance...many 100s of times. Once upon a time, it was must see viewing. Now, i wouldnt feel cheated if i never saw it again. Of the two songs performed, there are loads of other performances of those songs, which i would rather hear/see

SBS should have been replaced with OOC or IWF.  That would have stood the test of time.

It would not have turned the U2 crowd berserk as SBS did.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Since I first heard that performance on cassette it has been my favorite, and probably still is (close second is the Dublin show in '93 where they snippeted Candle in the Wind, Fool to Cry, and The First Time).
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

I agree.  David Bowie gave up a song in his slot so they could play that video.  U2 were annoying as fuck.  What's the thing about getting some random woman with a dodgy 80s hairstyle up on stage got to do with a great performance?

Freddie stole the show.

Queen were obviously crowd favourites, but for me Freddie doing a sing a long to Radio GaGa is vomit inducing.

U2 were epic. A band just approaching their prime with 2 great versions of iconic songs.
