TalkU2 Movie Club no. 4 - Kill Bill vol. 1 (2003 - Q. Tarantino)

We’ll do the 2 films separately, as it’s more fun that way.

The one that sits at the top for me, I love everything about it.

Don’t foret to grade the film on 10.

This is a solid 9 for me.  The two Kill Bill films (I consider them to be one film TBH) are my favorites by QT.  The story is a mix from the samurai film Lady Snowblood and Truffaut's The Bride Wore Black (although QT claims to have never seen the latter, something i highly doubt since he's a film buff and it was well known and made by a legendary director).  I'm not sure if i care for the animation sequence but it's something different from in his movies.  I consider the story to be nearly perfect.  This is the more action driven of the two and everything just seems to works.
Great movie.
Of the two films mentioned above, i recommend Lady Snowblood.  There's a sequel to it as well but its not half as good as the first one.  Truffaut's film is painfully snow and more arthouse.

I cannot pretend to be up on all the influences for this one, outlined above.  So possibly I relate to it a little less than some of his earlier stuff, and some of his later stuff.  But Uma Thurman carries the day.

It is florid and larger than life and frankly completely over the top at times.  But it needs to be.

8 out of 10.

Um, of all the Tarantino movies, Kill Bill Vol I&II are the 2 movies I am least familiar with....by some margin. All the others, i have seen multiple times. I may have seen the KB saga twice?
It was good tho. Tis a solid 7/10 from me, for both of the movies.

Love Kill Bill. Very close to the top of my rankings for Tarantino films.

The fight scene at the Japanese restaurant is one of the best fight/action scenes ever made, and the music makes it even better. Kill Bill may also be the best looking Tarantino movie.

A small touch; 'Kiddo', a slightly creepy term of endearment that turns out to just be her name.

I never watched Part II

It was the beginning of his ongoing revenge fantasy phase

Seems that since we started this movie club, I’m always late to put in my 2 cents.  ::)

Did the rewatch tonight, and yep, still my favourite of his first 4 movies.

Absolutely love the whole part in Japan. It’s just a great and fun film. Never a dull moment.

9/10

(Btw, y’all should watch the series Shōgun, if you any interest in all things Japanese)

i've heard good things about Shogun.  Isn't it a remake of an 80's miniseries?

Wouldn’t call it a remake.

It’s a new adaptation of the famous novel from the 70s.

It’s a slow burn, and most of the dialogue is in japanese. So it requires that you keep your eyes on the captions. Excellent series.
