Are Oasis bigger than U2 now?

Oasis are playing a staggering 7 nights at Wembley Stadium. It seems unlikely U2 could mange 3, let alone 7 at this point in their career. What do you think? Are oasis bigger than U2?

I voted yes on the strength of the size of their UK tour. My understanding is they are also planning huge concerts elsewhere in the world, too

They will play to nearly half a million fans in Manchester alone and in London to 630,000. The last time u2 played a London stadium they did just 2 nights, playing to 164,000 people.

I don’t mean to suggest oasis are a better band because I believe oasis to be, for the most part awful. But I think at this point in both bands careers, oasis are bigger.

Well, Oasis are playing to roughly the same amount of people in London alone as u2 did at the sphere. Given a lot of the sphere crowd will have been casual tourists and corporate bores, rather than u2 fans, I don’t think a comparison can be made between that and 630,000 drunk oasis enthusiasts.

I bet anything that Oasis re-split in UFC-style acrimony and quotable mutual denunciations long before these concerts ever take place.  Out of pocket fans can go lick their wounds.

There’s way too much money to be made. Besides, I don’t believe they’ve hated on each other all these years. The ‘rivalry’ makes for great free publicity, though, so why stop now?

You could say the same about the UFC personalities, but sure, the money will keep them together.

Apples to Oranges comparison

U2 never went away to be missed. I think overall it’s fair to say Oasis are/have been bigger in the UK but U2 is much bigger in North America and the rest of the world. Back in their heyday Oasis weren’t even filling arenas in n most North American cities.

Blur is better than Oasis 

There is pent-up demand for Oasis and a lot of intrigue around their reunion, which is a lot of what is fueling the disparity.  If Oasis had kept on releasing mid albums through the 2010s, they would probably be smaller than U2.

As it stands, for this moment, they are the more popular and relevant band.  30 million Spotify streams to U2’s 20.7.  Wonderwall has twice the streams of WOWY, etc etc.

Indeed. Whether the fuss about oasis represents a longer term trend remains to be seen. But for now, they are bigger and more relevant than u2.

Their only relevance is that they are exposing the shit dynamic pricing thing once more.

The United Kingdom is smaller than the U.S. state of Colorado in geographic size. Oasis are bigger than U2 in the United Kingdom, but leave the UK, and Oasis will face a different reality.

As do other members here. U2’s popularity has been in steady decline whereas oasis have been judged retroactively as being much more popular in the US.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in their forthcoming tour of the states. Additionally you have just contradicted yourself: London is even smaller than the UK and Colorado yet oasis are playing to roughly the same amount of people over 7 nights in London as u2 played over 40 nights at the sphere.

At this moment Oasis is far bigger than u2, but in the grand scheme of things its u2.  Simple as that.
