For me.......(dont hate me), it is Get Out Of Your Own Way. It is dominating my musical thoughts. I cant stop humming it etc. The ironic bit for me is, It is so similar to Beautiful Day, on a few levels, but i really cant go that song anymore, yet, i enjoy GOOYOW
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

A shame you missed it, Larry.

To an tha’s horror, I remember it well. He did enjoy SOE for a minute when it came out. He did give it a real shot and had an open mind.

And then, that was that.

Aye a short bout of new music fever set in, but then reality kicked in quite quickly.

It’s really important to an that that we all understand just how temporary this was.

Do you guys remember the sheer excitement when SOI was released ?
I mean, there were a few weeks right after this stunt where we kept debating about how every song on the album was a possible hit and how there wasn't a weak song on it.

I all faded away but I was never as excited as when that happened. For all the crap we give U2 for selling out with Apple, the surprise album thing worked amazingly well for the fan community. At first.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

I dunno... as a fan, it was kind of embarrassing...

I have a brother who hates U2 with a passion.  When the Apple thing happened, it took him about 3/10 of a nanosecond to text me with something along the lines of 'these are the sellout assholes you are a fan of?'

I had no good response to that.

Sly, I feel like you may have some unresolved U2 fan trauma that might explain a few things.

It’s okay, I also carry a lifetime of shame.

The surprise album was nice.  The Apple debacle - wonder if they would have pulled a stunt like that with Paul McGuiness as manager?  The backlash to the iphone incident was a bit much to be honest.  However to the bands fault their single choices for the album were awful and so most people who complain about the album and the band probably didn't hear the actual decent to good songs on the album.

If some band randomly loaded shite like 'Miracle of Joey Ramone' and 'song for someone' on my device i would probably tell them to fuck off as well.
