North and South of the River vs. Bowies' Can You Hear Me
« on: August 22, 2024, 11:52:26 PM »

so is U2 ripping him off? paying homage? coincidence?

i was listening to the Young American albums <Beck samples the song "Win" on his song "Debra" as well!> and i was struck but how similiar those 2 songs are.

what do you think?

I was posting about this very thing, many years back. Definite copying going on, from the u2-ers
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

Definitely similar near the beginning, but that’s it. After that they sound completely different to me. I imagine Edge or Bono knew the song as they are Bowie fans so they probably copied that beginning.
