TalkU2 Movie Club no. 2 - Pulp Fiction (1994 - Q. Tarantino)
« on: August 09, 2024, 12:17:32 AM »
Now we move on to the breakthrough film of his career, Pulp Fiction.

Rules are simple; watch the movie, rate it 1 to 10, and discuss in this thread.

I’m stoked to watch it again, since I haven’t seen it in at least 20 years.

Pro Tip: when you search for the film, make sure you don’t select the 2007 porn flick Pulp Friction.

Anyhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, getting on with things. Pulp Fiction just happens to be my joint fave movie of all time (sharing Top Spot with The Big Lebowski)
Last saw the movie earlier this year. MY local arts and entertainment venue, a handy 10 min stroll along the river from me, has two Cinema screens in there. They show some of the more modern movies and often, show classics on the big screen too. They recently showed all the Tarantino movies, on origianl 35mm print.
As for score, well, nothing in life for me is perfect (apart from my Kids)....so with that in mind, PF gets 9/10

'Check out the big brain on Brad!'

Basically everyone in this film is doomed except maybe for Butch and his girl.  I think things turn out ok for them.  Vincent Vega (Mia Wallace voice there), not so much.

What do you all think was in that suitcase?  You know, that suitcase.  I think it was the Golden Fleece.

No one knows.  It doesn't say in the script and QT has said there's no answer.  It was a trope first made popular with the classic noir film Kiss Me Deadly (1955) which is based off the Mickey Spillane story featuring his famous detective Mike Hammer.  The glowing contents of a briefcase was taken directly from this.  Repo Man did something similar with the contents of a car trunk only in that film people would vaporize upon looking at it.

Ah, I see.  I think this is what they call in the trade a McGuffin.
