This man is IMO one of the finest broadcasters in the land.

Here he is in action - take the time to watch as post these videos of him engaging with the British public and their political and social opinions.

No.1: James O'Brien tries to find out what a Brexit voter thinks they voted for....

Most of the time it is angry morons calling him up to rant about immigrants etc and then he schools them like this:

Caller: "This is a thing that is true."

James: "How do you know?"

Caller" "I don't have a clue."

James: "Why do you believe it?"

Caller: "Because it's true."

He then just lets them tie themselves up in knots until they can't resist spewing out all their prejudice and embarrassing themselves.

Yeah.

But I hate JOB. Here’s why:

It’s all very well embarrassing intellectually challenged people. But it doesn’t solve the problem. JOB comes across as a self satisfied prick. You don’t get to engage with people on a totally different level to you, by making them feel stupid or humiliated or unaware of their own prejudices.

Surely the whole point is to engage people, and change minds. Obrian is in a position of responsibility which he singularly fails to fulfil. He’s exactly the kind of guardian reading snob I freekin’ hate.

If there is a person who is actually open to proper debate, to listening and to maybe changing their mind he is more than happy to work with them and same if someone can actually back up what they say. He will also invite people to learn stuff.

What he won't - quite rightly IMO - put up with and tolerate is bigoted morons parroting daily mail headlines and rhetoric with no actual understanding of what they are talking about and those who argue things that simply do not stand up to any even light scrutiny.

And he is fantastic at exposing the real problem people have but won't actually say the words - like this extraordinary example here - please invest the time to watch this - it is quite, quite incredible.....

IMO we need more people like O'Brien to expose people like this absolute clown.

I like JOB, but I do agree that his ilk doesn't solve the problem. He's very good at drawing out callers and not tolerating any BS. The problem is that he, like most media personalities these days, is preaching to the choir. Callers getting schooled in their prejudices might play well to intellectuals, but it doesn't change the minds of the prejudiced. They just call it liberal BS and don't listen.

That having been said, he's a good listen and he makes an effort to meet people where they are, politically.

This.

He doesn’t solve anything. I want solutions, not a smug champagne socialist who thinks he’s above the people he’s trying to convert
