American Soul - last night I had dream
« on: December 19, 2017, 01:43:56 PM »
Where I was reading the liner notes and they actually said:

"For refugees like you and me,
A country to receive us,
Will you be our sanctuary,
Refugees, us..."

I dunno...made me kinda like the line that way. Obviously the pun is still there but I feel if this was printed in the liner notes this way there would be plausible deniability.
Hold on, people! The man's talking about waste management. That affects the whole damn planet.

But, they are all about plausible deniability, aren't they?  ;)

You really need to spice up your dreams.

Bono sings Refujesus.  He probably came up with it fiddling about on his laptop and thought that's a neat idea.  Associate refugees with Jesus.  Like that'll guilt the American Christians.

Guilt the American Christians?  "Are there no jails?  Are there no work houses?"--Scrooge, to the charitable volunteers.

I like this song, but not the politics behind it.  think the term refugee is now too broad.

I guess Bono didn't make up the Refujesus line.  Someone on another thread showed where it originated with a Baptist writer/pastor.

The only way I'll be okay with this line is if they also play The Refugee on tour.

Once upon a time I used to think Bono lifted some of his best lines from others.  Now I know he lifted one of his worst lines, too.

Yeah for me it induced an eye-roll on the first few listens but I have made my peace with it. It's not that bad and the song is better than I originally gave it credit for.
