I’ve voted for Brothers In Arms. Cedars is OK and certainly a high point of NLOTH but given the company it keeps, that’s not saying much

In fact, BIA is one of my all time favourite songs. Just check out these lyrics:

Now the sun's gone to hell and
The moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

Beats Cedars. I do really like Cedars but BIA is epic.

Hits all the nores - lyrics, guitar, build, ambience.

Love both.

That said… I’ve always found Dire Straits had a really, really… I mean really weak rythm section.
For all the beauty MK brings to the song, everything else, including the organ, is super pedestrian and predictable.
Let’s not forget Mark Knopfler is probably one of the worst singers ever, even if that song particularly suits him.

Cedars has an interesting chord progression and arrangement. I’ll take Bono’s half spoken vocals over Knopfler any day.

U2. Hands down. I’d go as far as trolling Cedars is a Passengers song. U2+Eno magic.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

BIA is an all-time great.

Cedars sucks.  I really don't understand what people hear in that weak, flaccid track.

Indeed.

I keep sticking up for NLOTH but the more I dig down, the more I conclude the ‘best’ bits of it are pretty mediocre, compared with other artists.

And there’s a lot more to like. You’ve barely scratched the surface.

No contest.

I knew there was something about you I liked, Martin

And there’s a lot more to like. You’ve barely scratched the surface.

I'd still like to know why Lovey disappeared at the same moment you arrived in his country.  And did not reappear for weeks.

Coincidence?  I think not.
