Going with Cedars. My thought is that this is a song that deserved to be on the radio. Not a hit, mind, just a nice song that was worth folks hearing.

Crazy Tonight.   It’s really not that bad.  Just doesn’t fit into the tone of the album.

I HATED the tour version.  Ditched Edge’s playful guitar work.

I like COL, but to be honest it has shitty lyrics: "A soldier brings oranges he got out from a tank"? That's almost as bad as it being "hot as a handbag and a can of mace" in New York.

And why do we all complain about Bono's talk-singing in concert when he does the same thing on this track in the studio, where (presumably) he could have done as many takes as needed to sing it right?

Killer music though. But as usual, Bono is the weak link.

Underrated by the band : Being Born.

Underrated on this forum : Boots.

I voted Boots. I think the song is easier to like if English isn’t your native tongue. Lyrics can remain abstract to me if I’m not paying too much attention to them.

Musically, I think Boots has a Queen of the Stone Age vibe.
Call me crazy (tonight) but I always found U2 we’re trying to emulate their version of No One Knows, here.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Unknown Caller is an all-time great song that would easily be the best on the album if not for MOS. The second time the "hear me cease to me" lyric comes in is probably the second most epic and uplifting moment in U2's discography, with the first coming a few moments later when Edge breaks into his guitar solo. From the beautiful atmospheric intro to the verses to the choruses to the solo to the very final seconds, Unknown Caller is a fucking masterpiece. Absolutely boggles my mind how some people consider this to be among U2's worst tracks. This is ten a hundred times the song that Kite is.

Big different between <gasp> <wheeze> talk singing of songs meant to be sung, belted even, because he can’t do it

and a Cohen-esque take by a man who could still sing but tried a lovely and different style.

Can’t defend oranges from a tank, though. But it doesn’t ruin the song for me.

Also, I’m pro-cockatoo.

No underrated songs as most of them are bad and the ones that are good seem appropriately rated. I'd never be at a U2 gig and go "gee, I wish they would play Magnificent or Unknown Caller instead of this song from The Joshua Tree".

Actually i wish they would play Magnificent or Unknown Caller instead of butchering WOWY for the millionth time.  Of course if they actually played WOWY the way they used to then no.
