How long have you gone without intentionally listening to U2?

I have not had the stomach to purposefully listen to anything by the U2 Corporation since the release of Atomic City at the end of September 2023.  I'm somewhat confident I will return to them at some point.  But only somewhat.

Has anyone else gone through a period of being absolutely revolted by this band?  If so, for how long?  Did you ever return to them?  If so, what was the impetus for doing so?

With the Zooropa picks currently ongoing, nice time to dip your feet again.

oh i was PISSED when HTDAAB came out. i didnt even consider going to the Vertigo tour. i'd say prob a good 2 or 3 years passed before i gave enough of a shit to listen to the back catalogue/bootlegs again. needless to say i was pleasantly surprised with NLOTH.

I went 12 years after HTDAAB.

These days, I listened to UABRS some weeks back. I listened to Atomic City once last year. Probably a handful of others last year. But it’s been pretty dry of late.

Atomic City came on our local indie radio station last night - shocked the heck out of us - random and out of the blue.  Looking at their playlist it was a regularly played song last year when the Sphere shows started.  I still think it is a decent song.

I played POP recently on a drive to see Mother,  aside from that i have not gone out of my way to listen to them other than watching 'Kiss the Future'.  Those were the good ole days.  Also my YT feed has on occasion remastered live videos from POPMART so i might give those a whirl.

12 years… wow.

Not even an tha hates Bomb more than I do.

I listened to it once, all the way through, and I was done.

My mom bought me a NLOTH CD and I never took it out of the wrapper.

Ditto SOI. Never heard one thing. (No radio in my area either).

Late 2017, I came back. Listened to all the old stuff. Finally took a chance watching EBW at the EMAs on YT, and wow. 2018 I listened to SOE, hated it, listened again, hated it, listened again, it caught fire. I joined @u2 and now here I am.

2018 was fun, enjoyed three “new” U2 albums in one year.

How would you rank these three “new” albums?

Tough one. NLOTH was the closest to being a masterpiece, SOI was more consistant.

But SOE was the one that let me come back. Well, for a few years anyway. Me n U2 are on the outs again.

Unlike any of you, my last three albums were experienced in reverse (SOE, SOI, NLOTH).

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is the 5th greatest album of all time! We may be getting a Box Set for its 20th anniversary at the end of 2024.

It’s really possible. I’ve been ranting about Bomb for years.

Look, did ATYCLB cause you to quit the band for 12 years?

Hmm?

It changed the course of my relationship with u2 irrevocably.

I also hold an extra level of disdain for it, because it is responsible for turds like Bomb  - it basically fathered those runts.
