Different combinations -

Bono
Edge
Larry
No Adam.

Bono
Adam
Larry
No Edge.

Bono has to always be in the line up.

Adam has barely moved during a show since 1985. But always looks cool.

Edge is a bit more lively during shows & sings.

Understand U2 saying they needed to get back out there. Even if Larry wasn't available.

For a residency, the best member for a band to not have available would be the drummer.

The drummer is the least visible & mobile during a show & usually does not sing.

But Edge's trademark guitar without Edge?

I’m just disappointed you didn’t use the word « nobono ». Would have made my day. Oh well.

A virtuoso guitarist taking Edge's place would be interesting.

Bono may up his game if he thought he was being upstaged.

Believe the audience would have accepted the residency without one of either Edge or Adam. But not Bono.

The audience know the band are in there 60's so there will be health problems.

The public flocked to Las Vegas although Larry was not there.

Don't believe U2 would have taken up the residency if 2 members of Adam/Edge/Larry were not available.

Bono, Edge and the computer.  With the drummer from Rammstein miming and the bassist from that other band miming.

Let’s say they book the Sphere without any issues with Larry.

Then a few weeks before the residency starts, Adam gets a cancer diagnosis and must undergo treatment.

They would simply bring in a replacement for him.

If it was Bono or Edge who’d get the diagnosis, they would postpone.

They have replaced Adam in the past. Not saying it was easy for them but it can be done same as with Larry.

I dont see them being able to replace Bono or Edge. It would not make sense. Might as well do a hologram show Abba-style in that case.

I guess they can do anything but there would be a major deflection from the public if Bono or Edge were missing. Way more than for Adam and Larry.

if we did a poll before the Sphere thing, I am guessing most here would have said Adam is way more replaceable than Larry.  LMJ was the founder after all.

Queen have had Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert since Freddie died.

The remaining band members & the public know Freddie can't be replaced, but will still be up for a night out.

Doubt that would happen if Bono dies before the others. As U2 have had a longer career than Queen. Brian & Roger would have wanted to continue playing live.

Bono and Edge are indispensable. Larry and Adam can be and have been replaced. I’m not saying I like it, but it’s true.
