Best album opener/closer pair
« on: May 09, 2024, 08:08:28 PM »
YOU CAN CHOOSE THREE AND YOU CAN EDIT YOUR VOTE

So it’s not just which of these songs are best but which albums both came in and went out in the best ways?

I only voted for 2 (TUF and AB), mainly because those two albums represent significant departures from came before (in a good way).
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,

I decided on TJT, AB, and Zooropa.

War was also a contender.

For latter-day work, I’ll mention NLOTH and SOE for having solid bookends.

I’d like to nominate R&H for having the most lopsided pairing. In my book the worst opener other than SOI I guess, and then a contender for all time best closer.

So, basically your three favorite albums.

TUF, my #1 favorite album, is noticeably absent from my list. ASOH is great, MLK is...fine.

Also I have convinced myself that Shadows And Tall Trees is a slightly better closer than Cedars, so I'm changing my vote. Boy, October, Zooropa.

TUF, without a doubt.

BTW the wanderer isn’t the last song on Zooropa. Please amend the poll.

Wow, I never contemplated U2’s discography from that angle. So many great contenders !

I voted TJT and AB without hesitation. But the 3rd…

TUF, NLOTH, POP are very solid contenders but in the end I had to go with War.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

The Wanderer was an inspired inclusion on Zooropa and closed out the album nicely.

I went with JT, AB and Zooropa, but War would have been my fourth choice.  Had Fez opened NLOTH then that would have been a contender for fifth place.
