What was the music played in your home, when you were a kid?

I got to wondering, what was the first music you really knew in life.

I can clearly remember Elvis (sun record years) The Beatles, Johnny Cash and Mario Lanza being played in the family home.
On sundays, the radio went on from early morning, and we used to hear a shed load of early Rock N Roll (Chuck berry, Lil Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and such like)

The first chart Hit i recall taking a real shine to, was Gary Numans "Cars", in 1979, aged 9.

What about yourselves?
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

All the music from Mexico and the rest of Latin America that my parents had, along with Beatles and Motown.

I have 3 older brothers and my oldest brother is 10 years older than me. When he was a teenager his room was in our basement and that’s where I heard the music that got me into rock.

When I was young in the late 70’s it was Kiss Alive II that had the biggest impact on me. I would put on the double album and stare at the gatefold forever.

My brother was like most North American kids. The posters that covered his room were Aerosmith, Rush, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Genesis, and towering over them all taking up the wall over his bed was Led Zeppelin.

Another influence was CCR. We used to drive down to California every year to see family and my Dads favourite tape was CCRs greatest hits, which was odd cause that was the only rock band he liked.

Did your parents listen to another genre or did they not listen to music at all really?

If this is directed at me, my mom liked 50’s/early 60’s era pop - Beach Boys were her favourite, and she liked a lot of the hit singles of the era, but also liked stuff like ABBA. My Dad loved CCR, but also big band/jazz type stuff. Aside from CCR, I’d say my influences were mostly from my oldest brother.

My mum was into Cliff Richard mainly but also had hundreds of 45's from the 60's....Threre was literally hundreds of them in a cupboard. My arl fella didn't seem so interested in music.

That said though neither of them really played much music as I was growing up, I can't recall it being a big part of life at all and they certainly didn't push any of their stuff at me. I very much found my own path with music.
