I saw Streets was trending on Twitter

It’s the hockey playoffs over here and the Vancouver Canucks are using it when the team comes out.

From what I was understanding reading about it, they brought it back after some sort of absence?

Anyways, beats the Habs coming out to Fix You….

Yes, you’re right. They used it for seems like a decade or more, then went away from it a few years back.

Brought it back tonight. Could also be a subtle shot at Nashville. They had planned a team outing to the U2 Sphere show when they played in Vegas. The players had planned to go to Vegas a day early for the show. They got smoked the game before, so the Nashville coach cancelled the team going to Vegas a day early, and they practiced instead of seeing U2.

The entrance was pretty special. JT Miller, the Canucks leading scorer, said it was a very memorable, showing how much the game means to Canadians. The crowd was going nuts. He said after the birth of his kids it was one of the most special moments of his life.

Here's a video, for those interested. Starts about halfway though

A pretty epic moment, especially if the trolling rumor is true  ;D Been trying to get into hockey since moving to the Northeast, so now I have to go to a Rangers game if it's anywhere this electric.

Well, there was years of build up to it. Last time the Canucks were in the playoffs was Covid, so it was on one building with no fans. Last time with fans is over a decade.

This from an article this morning:

There was a lot of discussion before the playoffs about how the Canucks’ youngish core, Hughes and goalie Thatcher Demko, forwards Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser, would deal with the atmosphere and ferocity of the Stanley Cup tournament.

But even veterans like Miller, Myers and Lindholm felt emotions swell as they skated out before the anthems to U2’s ‘Where the Streets Have No Name’ as fans long-starved for playoff hockey screamed and twirled towels.

“Goosebumps,” Lindholm said.

“My head was on a different planet tonight,” Miller said. “That atmosphere was incredible. I mean, when we came out there, that was a special moment I’ll always remember. And I guarantee you they (playoff rookies) always will, too. We have better in us. But I just thought we looked pretty good for the most part.”

The link also has the in between periods TV crew talking about the U2 entrance and if it was trolling Nashville.

It’s a great song for such a setting. But we all know that in here.

I maintain it was a bit of trolling for Nashville.  ;D ;D

Ireland Rugby has used Streets when the team takes the field for home games. They use Vertigo when the team scores a try. They use Beautiful Day when the team gets a trophy.

Ireland Rugby fans must be sick of U2 by now  ;D

From 2006 to at least 2014, the Montreal Canadiens used VERTIGO every time a goal was scored. It became nauseating.

These trends are so weird.

I can’t tell you how many times I played The Smiths to my kids at home or in the car. They never caught up, until… there was a TikTok video using « There is a light that never goes out » going viral.

So much for « dad is brainwashing the kids ».
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...
