the article states that the full band name is 'U2 Malahide', not simply 'U2'.

Never heard that name before.  When did they shorten it to just U2?  Anyone else ever hear that name?

I see that as a mistake by the reporter.

The photo caption says “U2 from Malahide, Dublin”

Someone colorized those photos. The originals were all black and white.

46 years ago. They were still 2 years away at that point from the record deal with Island Records. Still had to finish High School.

I never had issues with those monikers, really.

No big difference from Sting or Madonna. Boy George was ridiculous, though.

And Prince took it to another level with his unpronounceable symbol.
