Love it or loathe it, Pop was the last album from the band that truly encapsulated everything that the band used to stand for. Since then, it has been unadventurous and formulaic
For the record...i adore the album
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

I know, especially in recent years, that a lot of U2 stuff can be a bit cringe-y. But I just have such a soft spot in my heart for U2 that I give them a wide berth. I think Pop was them at their most experimental in some ways.

Can somebody invite this guy to join us? He’s one of us  :'(

Gotta say, even though I enjoyed their balls, POP isn’t a great record, save for Mofo and VD. That said, it was their last hurrah before bono sold his soul.

Their trajectory was pure and clean up until that point. Everything since, has been an uneasy balance between the beauty and poetry of their early to mid period, and the bloated cash grab they subsequently became. Even so, we still catch glimpses of the magic with, for example, MOS, LIAWHL and Little Things and, for that, we should be grateful.

Except for half off NLOTH… and a few tunes here & there.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

I enjoyed LN’d first 3 albums. Then I lost touch with them. Might be worth a revisit.

Even though I thought POP was the worst of the 90's efforts, it's the last time they made a true artistic statement. NLOTH could have been that, but then they went back and made it more radio friendly which was a big mistake.
