I am somewhere between option 3 and 4, which is option 5. I will no doubt check out the set list, read reviews and engage with the forum but, like everything U2 these days, it will interest me for a short time, then I'll just find them irritating.

Somewhere between 3 and 4.

I'm not terribly interested but it's possible they could come up with some interesting visuals that utilize the space fairly well. I'll check out a few videos at some point, just out of curiosity. At this stage I'm more interested to see if they'll take any risks with the setlist, like adding in deep cuts from Zooropa.

I went with option 2.

I’m very curious about the venue, for starters.

Also, I’m somewhat of an eternal optimist with the band. So sue me.  8)

Option five. I’ll read what people post on this forum about it. Won’t seek out any info on my own. Will only watch a video if it sounds particularly intriguing.

I expect they’ll put on “a good show” but doubt it’ll be magic.

Are you ‘somewhat of an optimist’ in life more generally, Martin?

Absolutely.

I see.

So what did you vote for, then? Option 2, perhaps?

I think their team will have some incredible visuals. However, I think the building’s/stage’s visuals will overwhelm and distract from the actual band, and that the original spirit of ZooTV was explicitly stated in interviews to be that the band would become better to not have the audience distracted by the screens and lights. Sort of the opposite of a Pink Floyd show. Now it will be that.

For sure, the stage and visuals overwhelming the band was the case on 270 and POPMART, too. I feel U2 are always at their best in a stripped down presentation such as TUF, TJT and Elevation tours.

I enjoyed, for example, POPMART, but I can’t say it was an engaging concert. It just looked clever. 270 managed neither.

It isn't U2 without Larry but even if Larry was playing the performances aren't going to be better than the E&I tour. Bono just doesn't sound that good anymore. The band doesn't sound nearly as good as they did in the 80's and 90's. I would rather pay to see bands that still sound great.

So Passengers, featuring all 4 U2 members, isn’t a U2 album, yet U2 touring without Larry is a U2 tour.

Whatever next.

I voted option 2. Even if it were a different artist or band doing the premiere shows there, I'd pick that option. It's an all new canvas, and I want to see what gets painted on it.

Sure.

But this is the problem. People are excited about the building. No one is excited about whether U2 can pull it off in terms of performance.
