Don't mind Edge on vocals.

But don't know why they cut off 48 seconds.

The single could have fitted the whole 5 minutes 37 seconds.

Radio stations could skip the intro and just play from guitar onwards.

The outro is one of there best ever. Couldn't believe that was put to fade.

Doing the same on the 1998 greatest hits was also a bad idea. Again they could have fitted the whole song on the CD.

A lot of casual buyers would have bought the greatest hits package. They would not have heard or will ever hear TJT version. So are missing out.

Single edits only have one purpose : facilitate airplay. The shorter the better, and needs dynamics. Imagine you’re working in a radio station, you can choose between playing a tune straight away, or a tune where you have to skip a 1’ intro. Which one do you pick ?

Also, why did you start a new thread and didn’t use the same one you opened on the same topic ?
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

If the OP agrees to a merge, I’ll gladly oblige.

The released single could be the full/album version. Was only 48 seconds more. Unlike AIWIY's 2 minutes 20 seconds edit.

The record companies could give radio stations the shortened version.  If DJ's find it too much to play the song from guitar onwards.

However my memory from 80's radio is DJ's were always playing bits of songs or talking over songs. Rather than playing them in isolation from start to finish.

The Streets intro is perfect for DJ's to talk over before shutting up as the song hits it's stride.

The album version could have been put on the 98 greatest hits. That had album tracks and singles.

Just realised a possible reason for this stressful 48 second edit - Edge wanted a version going out which had his vocals on. Although still no reason to cut 48 seconds.

Zoo Adam, do you even read other people’s posts or is this just you in a room alone babbling to yourself?

Sometimes I wonder if ZA and Wons are the same person. Incapable of a reciprocal conversation. The worst kind of date, in fact.

Actually bought the Streets single in 87. But only for the B sides.

Remember hearing it on the radio in 87. Wasn't paying much attention but remember not hearing the full outro. Just thought it was the DJ stepping in.

It wasn't until the 98 greatest hits package that I was outraged.

Did anyone actually buy the Streets single in 87? Did anyone buy it for the B-sides alone?

What about hearing it on the radio that year, anyone remember that? Do you remember not hearing the full outro? What did you attribute that to?

And if you did buy the single in 87, how did you feel when you heard the greatest hits package in 98?

Let's dialog!

It was very much the third single from the album behind the far superior WoWY and ISHFWILF US number 1 singles.  Back then it hadn't developed its legendary status as a live performance number.  Red Hill Mining Town or Bullet would have made better singles IMO.
