Oppenheimer

Just saw it this afternoon.  Pure Excellence.  Still digesting.  It was engrossing from start to finish.

Robert Downey Jr and Cillian Murphy will surely be nominated for Oscars.

Emily Blunt a strong contender in supporting actress.

One of my buddies is doing the same tonight.

For me, it’s a 2hr drive to get to the IMAX screen in downtown MTL. I need to find the time…

Oppenheimer has been on my radar for a while now. Im keen to see it. Im also keen to see Killers Of The Flower Moon. Hopefully, the local arts and entertainment venue, 10 mins walk along the river from my home, will be showing both. Im sure they will.
I havent been to the cinema since Once Upon A Time In HollyWood was out
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

Wondering what could’ve happened in the world during those 4 years preventing someone to go to the movies….

Saw the previews for Oppenheimer the other day and it looks really good.  Been a fan of Cillian Murphy since the Peaky Blinders series.

Prior to this week i had not been to a theater since The Meg in 2018.

Pros of the film:

The acting is excellent. Not a weak performance in sight.
The script is excellent. Great character development.
It’s really well filmed.

Cons of the film:
It’s waaaaaay too long.
The trinity test sequence, where the bomb explodes - arguably the films centrepiece - is a bit of a let down. I wanted to feel the destructive power of the thing and didn’t.

Overall: it’s definitely worth seeing. I’m a big fan of nuclear weapons and have read shitloads about their development.

Note: if you want to see a truly devastating movie about nuclear war watch ‘Threads’. Hollywood attempted something similar with ‘The Day After’ which was shit. Threads, however, will haunt you forever.

Nolan tried to not use CGI at all.  That’s why Trinity feels flat.  I felt the same way.
