Anybody here live in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area??
« on: July 01, 2023, 03:03:21 PM »
Hi, I'm new to the group, and wondering if anyone on here is in my area (I live in Gaithersburg, MD)?

Any fan gatherings, etc. ever happen around here?

I'll offer one up: The tribute band I play in, U2TOPIA (U2TOPIA.com), is performing at the Tally Ho Theater in Leesburg, VA on Saturday July 15 ---- two weeks from today ---- in case anyone wants to come out...

Mods, this feels like someone’s joined the forum to promote their business.

Not cool.

The admin and mod team have no problem at all with a u2 tribute band coming on here to promote themselves/their shows. And if some u2 fans go and see them as a result - even better.

Why don't you put your menu and price list up?

Totally acceptable in here.

Heck, I even invited the fella to post material from his band.

Gosh, I would just hate to get more posters and more topics for discussion on here.

Thank god Larry is on the case chasing potential new blood away.

Guys.

The internet is full of people selling shit. Is this forum really going to start going down that road? If yes, I’m going to post my U2 eBay listings here on the general talk section.

Cheers.

Yeah well I’d hope, as a longtime member, my opinion counts. Just like you used to berate that dullard Matt on the other forum.

You are of course entitled to your opinion - that is why it hasn't been edited or removed and why you haven't been subject to (from an administrator or a mod at least) criticism of it.

Cough up £20,000 like u2topia have paid to us to post about a gig on a forum that has about 25 regular posters scattered all over the place, that is taking place in a place 99.9% of those 25 people will probably never visit and you can do it, LL....

Until then sorry but we won't be accommodating you.

Cheers

To be franck, what I hope is that it’s not just advertising but the band actually shares why and how they do what they do.

Covering U2 isn’t as easy as one might think. I think going behind the scenes would be more interesting than the usual « we did this » and « we’ll play there » posts

Please share.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Very much the latter - but the 20,000 does help!....

As the one who started the arguments here, I apologize to anyone who felt upset by my post.

I honestly didn't look at it at "selling something" or "promoting a business." All four of us in the band are huge FANS (otherwise, why would we play in such a band?). Yes, I'd like to see a nice crowd at our show (it's more fun for everyone that way)...but I also genuinely thought that folks on a board like this (at least those in the relevant geographic area) might enjoy a night out listening to some U2 songs, and if folks on the board had any interest in an opportunity to meet up in person, well......it's not a real U2 concert, but it would at least be a step up from just going to a random place with zero relevance to the band's music. :-)

To whoever mentioned something about wanting "behind the scenes" info on the band (why we do it, how we do it, etc.), I'm happy to field questions...

Cheers,
-Skip
