Says Live Aid drew an estimated TV audience of 1.5 billion.

Afterwards, how many decided to check out U2's 5 album back catologue?

I was one that did and became a fan.

The back catologue was very strong. So most that did would become fans.

They may have acquired millions more fans. Although already very big and respected.

Pre Youtube, buying the albums would be  the most effective way to investigate a band.

Not surprised about record shops opening at midnight & TJT becoming the fastest seller of all time.

u2 were considered to be a cool band back when live Aid happened. Forward to the release of The Joshua Tree album....a lot of the Hip kids jump ship and accused u2 of selling out
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

They were absolutely huge when The Joshua Tree album came out. Lots of people wearing Tree T shirts, and even appearing on Spitting Image in the UK.
I couldn't understand the fuss, and prefered The Unforgetable Fire album.

Yes TUF & the 5 album back catologue was very strong.

The millions of potential new fans after Live Aid would probably get hooked. As I did.

So no surprise record shops opened at midnight for the first time ever in 1987.
