I know it was criticised at the time. But U218 does cover 26 years.

The big singles are there. I don't know why SBS is there.

u218- the best of a larger window.  i knocked it when it was released as a cash grab tie-in to the U2 by U2 book, but is a good place to start.

80-90 single disc.

I remember when it was first released the bartender at a busy pub in Amsterdam used to play it all the time.  If you were unfamiliar with the band then I reckon that would have got you into them if you liked the music.

I agree with 80-90 single disc because U218 had that window in the sky clunker (which,  if released today would be a blessing from the heavens considering their recent output).  Also on the 90-00 people might hear Miss Sarajevo or You Blue Room and wonder to themselves "Passengers Who'?   ;D

i kind of like Window in the Sky.  The video too.  What recording session did they pull it from.  The song with Green Day is the one i skip.

Why was The Green Day song on it?

Can understand Window being on it. It was a stand alone single made to promote the album.

Thought Discoteque should have been on it. It was number 1 in the UK & top 10 in the US. Preferably instead of ST.

I wouldn’t pick U218 - it misses some of their most well known songs that were not released as singles - EG BAD, Bullet, UTEOTW, and it includes songs that were hits but don’t really last long on the memory (Sweetest thing, window in the skies)

I’d give them the best of 80-90 and then I’d cheat and give them the best of 90-00 too

Maybe a better question would be: could you give someone a “greatest hits” playlist to introduce someone to U2 with a double-album or less length?

Album 1: 1980s
Side 1: Early 80s

Pride
New Years Day
I will Follow
Out of control
Gloria
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Unforgettable fire
BAD
40

Side 2: Late 80s
Streets
ISHFWILF
WITH or without you
In gods country
Desire
Angel of Harlem
Sweetest thing
Bullet the blue sky
When love comes to town
All I want is you

Album 2: 1990s and 2000s
Side 1: 1990s

The fly
Discotheque
Even better than the real thing
One
Miss Sarajevo
Until the end of the world
Mysterious ways
Lemon
Numb
Stay

Side 2: 2000s

Vertigo
Beautiful Day
Walk on
City of blinding lights
Elevation
Stuck on a moment
The saints are coming
Window in the skies
Hands that built America
Ground beneath her feet
Moment of surrender

Its not on here, but I think UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY, a compilation of live performances from 1983 by U2, one in Boston, two at Red Rocks near Denver, and 5 from a show in Germany, is the best compilation. That live album and video turned U2 from being a band playing small theaters to selling out arenas multiple nights in a row in the same city.

The band seems to have disowned Pop.  I would've liked to seen an anniversary deluxe version of it.

TJT is what got me into the band, but I always felt that UABRS would have done the trick if I had heard it first.

However, I have no idea how it would come across here in 2023.

That was an album I listened to around the same time as the first 4 studio albums. In 1986.

Great album to compliment the studio albums. You can hear the live energy.

Pity my parents didn't have a video recorder so I could watch the video as well.
